A Temperley Guide to Marrakech

Share

For the launch of our SS25 collection, we travelled to Marrakech, a city that continues to inspire us with its energy, craftsmanship, and colour. Our campaign was shot at Villa des Oliviers, a place that captures the soul of Moroccan living with its gardens, traditional design, and warmth. Organised through Scott Williams, the villa became our home during the shoot, offering a quiet retreat from the city while still being close enough to explore everything Marrakech offers.

Founded in 2007, Scott Williams specialises in sourcing distinctive properties that offer something beyond the ordinary. Their collection of villas includes homes with striking architecture, standout locations, and a strong sense of character. From private beaches to hidden countryside retreats, each property is chosen for its individuality and atmosphere.

Where to Stay:

Villa des Oliviers

Set within gardens of palm and olive trees, Villa des Oliviers is a private and inviting retreat. Large arched doors open onto the gardens, allowing the outside in, while the central sitting room with its open fireplace makes it a welcoming space year-round. Fatima, the house manager, was a highlight of our stay, an incredible cook, she prepared traditional dishes and brought fresh bread each morning. The pool is another standout, perfect for a slow afternoon before heading into the city in the evening.

Sleeping up to 12 in five double bedrooms and one bunk room, the villa offers exclusive use from just £560 per person for a seven-night stay when fully occupied. With a house manager, daily cleaning, and a chef preparing breakfast each morning, Available to hire through Scott Williams, Villa des Oliviers is brilliantly situated on the desirable southwest corner of Marrakech. Set in a peaceful countryside location at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, the villa offers the perfect base for a Moroccan holiday -providing a seamless blend of privacy, comfort, and Moroccan hospitality. Additional services such as airport transfers and private excursions can also be arranged.

What is nearby:

The bustling city of Marrakech is just a 20-minute drive away, allowing guests to explore the vibrant city and then retreatback to the villa to complete luxury. The Berber town of Tameslohte, famous for its weaving and pottery, is only a 10-minute drive, and for those who love golf, two of Morocco’s most beautiful courses, Royal Palm and Samanah, are just five minutes away, alongside the Ritz Carlton Polo Club.

What to Do:

The Medina is at its heart, a maze of streets filled with markets, historic buildings, and rooftop cafes. Jemaa El Fna Square comes alive in the evening with street performers, food vendors, and musicians, while the nearby souks are packed with everything from handwoven textiles to carved wooden furniture.

For a quieter escape, the Jardin Majorelle gardens offer a break from the busy streets, with deep blue buildings, cacti, and lush greenery creating a striking setting. Those looking for something immersive can visit a traditional hammam or take a day trip to the Atlas Mountains, where trails wind through Berber villages and waterfalls.

Where to Eat and Drink:

El Fenn

One of Alice’s favourite spots in Marrakech is El Fenn, a riad that blends Moroccan design with a laid-back atmosphere. The rooftop is the perfect place to unwind after a day in the souks, with a menu of fresh, local ingredients and cocktails that reflect the city’s flavours. The hibiscus ginger margarita is her go-to, served with dried hibiscus flowers and best enjoyed as the sun sets over the rooftops on their striped loungers.

What to Wear:

Marrakech calls for considered dressing, with light layers and covered silhouettes working best in the heat. The Monikh story, made from smooth silk and cotton, is perfect for evenings, with an original hand-painted print inspired by Art Nouveau and lace detailing.

Alternatively, the Nelle Story showcases our custom broderie anglaise design across a versatile range of silhouettes, including a sophisticated skirt and trousers, elegant tops, and a midi length dress. Available in timeless black or crisp white, all in 100% cotton.

Bringing a lightweight layer is essential in Marrakech, both for modesty in certain areas and for when the temperatures drop in the evening during cooler months. Our kimonos and scarves are perfect for this.

Swimwear

Temperley x Heidi Klein

Our latest swimwear collection, created in collaboration with British brand Heidi Klein, brings together hand-painted prints with classic swimwear shapes. Designed for both poolside and beach, the capsule includes swimsuits, bikinis, and pareos in vibrant patterns, made from recycled honeycomb fabric.

Occassion Dressing:

As the city shifts from day to night, there’s a sense of occasion when dressing for dinner or cocktails. The Loretta slip dress is designed with movement in mind, featuring rhinestone hotfix artwork that gradually fades downward, while the Pablo Jacket, crafted from soft leather and suede, adds structure and detail. For a sharper, tailored look, the Clove suit in its new coral colourway is a standout. Cut with a structured silhouette, the jacket and trousers work together for an effortless statement or can be styled separately for a more relaxed take.

Marrakech is a city that stays with you long after you leave - a place where history, design, and craftsmanship are woven into everyday life. Whether exploring the souks, dining under the stars, or unwinding at the villa, it’s a destination that inspires with every visit.
